Kate Jane Wanjiru
Federation national leader
Kate Jane Wanjiru is a Muungano wa Wanavijiji national federation leader from Mathare since the year 2008. Her role is to train, mobilize, monitor, and support program activities in the field. She was born and raised in Mathare, where challenges such as rent, food, clean infrastructure, inadequate schools, limited number of hospitals, and lack of security and water are prevalent. These challenges influenced her decision to join Muungano wa Wanavijiji's efforts to address these issues. Her personality is described as open, hardworking, risk-taker, energetic, and courageous. She is passionate about bringing change to her community by mentoring young people and teenagers and reaching out to hard-to-reach youths in Mathare.
Kate Jane has been actively involved in various community engagements, including data collection, community dialogues, settlement profiling, and capacity building on savings and money logic. She is particularly proud of her contribution to supporting the formation of the Ward Climate Change Planning Committee. Her goals include becoming a better mentor, sharing her skills with others, building a strong community of individuals working together to achieve common goals, and empowering her community with the knowledge she has acquired to liberate themselves from oppression.
